Ruth’s background is in neuropsychology and she has worked as a case manager and disability advocate for almost 20 years. Ruth began her career working as a member of the psychology team in residential brain injury rehabilitation and in community settings. She has worked in mental health settings, children’s homes, mother and baby units and in transitional living units for children leaving care.
During the Iraq and Afghani wars Ruth worked with injured military personnel and military welfare organisations. Later, she worked closely with the police. Ruth’s expertise is working with seriously injured clients, those who have sustained life changing injuries.
Ruth is passionate about neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation, this includes positive psychology, motivation, aids and adaptations, and SMART technology. She has worked extensively with people with brain injury, Spinal cord injury and mass orthopaedic injuries.
Ruth specialises in:
- Initial needs assessments and making recommendations as to best practice for rehabilitation.
- Providing support for clients and their family
- Providing condition specific education, demystification of medicalisation of clients’ symptoms or condition
- Highlight areas of need and co-ordinate appropriate services
- Liaising with treating teams, medical and rehabilitation professionals, social services and the DWP.
- Practical support with day-to-day issues such as accommodation, aids and adaptations, equipment, benefits, grants, education
- Assisting clients to access the community, signposting for advice about housing, transport and vocational rehabilitation.
